Direct investments
C.W. Obel has a proactive approach to direct investments and would like to be an attractive partner for business owners and managements of unlisted companies. We continuously conduct new direct investments in good and healthy companies in which we can engage in loyal and long-term partnerships with the stakeholders of the individual company.
C.W. Obel assists the individual company based on its specific needs for value creation through growth capital and continuous strategic collaboration – e.g. in relation to succession, geographical expansion, or establishment of new activities. Every situation is unique, and our approach is flexible.
What do we look for?
Ownership structure
- Acquire between minimum 10% and maximum 49%
- Majority investments in co-operation with a partner
- Active role and value creation fx through board representation
Ownership horizon
- Flexible – ideally a long-term ownership and partnership structure
- Focus on value creation and business development
Industry focus
- Broad industry focus with preference for known and stable industries
Investment size
- Equity investment of 50-250 mio. DKK
- Flexibility to deviate in specific cases
Geographical focus
- Primarily Danish companies
- Secondly Nordic and Northern European companies
Indirect investments
C.W. Obel commits to select Danish and international private equity and venture capital funds.
We focus on finding competent teams which continuously demonstrate strong investment discipline and active ownership in the portfolio companies, and are very much interested in engaging in dialogues regarding co-investment opportunities.
What do we look for?
Investment focus
- Private equity funds: Primarily small- and mid-cap buy-out. Possibility for committing to large-cap private equity funds in specific cases
- Venture capital funds: Focus on growth perspectives and funds with strong demonstrated track record within venture capital investing
Geographical focus
- Primarily Nordic funds
- Secondly funds in Benelux and DACH
- Possibility for global exposure in select cases, including Norther America and Asia
Investment size
- Primarily between 35 and 150 mio. DKK per commitment
- Flexibility to deviate in specific cases
Listed investments
C.W. Obel owns listed ownership positions, e.g. in Scandinavian Tobacco Group.
Furthermore, C.W. Obel manages a liquid asset portfolio consisting of listed share and bond products. Active management of this portfolio is conducted in collaboration with a number of external managers.
Real estate
C.W. Obel’s real estate investment activities are performed by the subsidiary C.W. Obel Ejendomme.
C.W. Obel Ejendomme offers commercial and residential leases in Copenhagen and Aalborg. The properties are selected based on quality, location and user value.
